Buffy is a Canadian-American Cree singer-songwriter, musician, composer, visual artist, educator, pacifist, and social activist. Throughout her career in all of these areas, her work has focused on issues of Indigenous peoples of the Americas. Her singing and writing repertoire also includes subjects of love, war, religion, and mysticism.

Buffy Sainte-Marie has appeared all over Europe, Canada, Australia and Asia, receiving honors, medals and awards, which continue to this day.

Her song "Until It's Time for You to Go" was recorded by Elvis and Barbra and Cher, and her "Universal Soldier" became the anthem of the peace movement.

For her very first album she was voted Billboard's Best New Artist. With the release of her eighteenth album "Running for the Drum", she won her third Juno Award.
