Tunes on the Town

City of Lloydminster and Streetscapes are calling on local artists to bring a pair of pianos to life. The City recently acquired two pianos, generously donated by local residents. "Tunes on The Town" will see the pianos uniquely painted and placed in downtown Lloydminster. Once complete, the pianos will be moved around the downtown to coincide with Downtown Revitalization discussions.

Local artists interested in painting the pianos may apply by emailing Program Coordinator Sarah Hockridge at shockridge@lloydminster.ca by Monday, August 31, 2015. Applications must include the artist’s name, contact information and a written or illustrated artistic concept for the pianos.

An online voting contest will determine the winning artists who will paint the pianos on Saturday, September 26, 2015 during Culture Days at the Lloydminster Cultural & Science Centre.

Your Feedback Needed

There is a possibility that Lloydminster Public Library and Lloydminster Cultural & Science Centre could be built in one complex with shared spaces/lobby, etc. Isn't that fantastic!!! Both venues are way OVERDUE for new space. The possibilities for this new space are endless. It is their turn now. Show your support and complete the survey at the link below. Thank you!

The Secretaries

August 7, 2015
The Root: Community Emporium
4901 50 Ave
Phone: 306-825-5885
$10 - Doors Open at 8 pm - Performance at 9 pm

The Secretaries combine dreamy, anthemic vocal harmonies with dark, indie sensibilities. Disco and discord find a seamless, spectral partnership in the heart of this trio – a sound brightened by intermittent horns and atmospheric synth. Maybe you’ll cry, but probably you’ll dance.

I Draw Slow

Dublin roots band I Draw Slow have been drumming up enthusiastic reviews in Ireland since the release of their top 10 selling second album, Redhills.

I Draw Slow is a five-piece outfit comprising vocals, guitar, fiddle, banjo and double bass. Holden siblings Dave (guitar) and Louise (vocals) have been writing together for two decades. The pair teamed up with Violinist Adrian Hart, Claw hammer banjo player Colin Derham, Double bassist Konrad Liddy to form I Draw Slow.

The Sound: Alt-country, folk, roots, old-time, Americana The five have created a new sound, rooted in the old time style of the Appalachian Mountains, drawing on Irish traditional music and modern Americana. However, this is a whole new songbook of stories and melodies. These are dark tales of debauchery and trouble swinging from the kind of well-crafted melodies that survive.

Open Graffiti Wall Project - Downtown

As part of Streetscapes Alley Art Program, they are launching a pilot open graffiti wall. The goal of the Alley Art project is to continue in their quest to beautify the downtown and help curb the graffiti that has been showing up on downtown property. An open graffiti wall is an area where graffiti is permitted and encouraged.

The goals of the pilot graffiti wall are:
  • To promote a legal and safe site for artists in Lloydminster and;
  • To beautify and add culture to downtown Lloydminster

The designated location will be located in the alley behind Sunlife Financial (4802 50th Ave). Alley access can be found on 48th Street. The designated wall will be the north facing wall of Ironjet and will be clearly marked with signage and a canvas area. The site will be open to the public August 4 at which point artists will be invited through advertising to come and paint the art work of their choosing at the time of their choosing. All artists are invited to come and show off their work! Streetscapes will monitor the site and any offensive or illegal posts will be removed. Painting of the wall can then run until the wall is complete or until it is too cold to paint outdoors.
