Reflections of the Earth
September 7 - 28
Barr Colony Heritage Cultural Centre
This show is called “Reflections of the Earth.” Silk has provided Bonny Macnab a “canvas” for the translation of spirit through light, color, pattern and movement. This body of work was created with the intention of seeing water as a reflection of the earth’s spirit. “I have always had a strong connection to water. One would think it was because I was raised on the west coast and walked miles by the ocean. Living on the prairies I have found the same vastness in the skies, fields and beautiful lakes. I look at water and am amazed at the strength and power it holds and the peace and beauty it brings. The same body of water can be frightening or calming. The colors of the earth it reflects are infinite. Water has always been an inspiration and lesson to my life.”
Bonny Macnab has been an artist all her life. Growing up on the west coast in Canada she found out in school she excelled in art and all the variations of creativity it had to offer. After graduation she moved to the prairies where the wide open space, living close to the boreal forest and the long winters provide perfect opportunity to develop her skills. Her most recognized medium has been portraits in watercolor. She has been able to carry this into silk and finds that the silk provides another dimension to her work through the movement of the fabric. She attends retreats thought out the year with other accomplished artists, which provides inspiration and knowledge. Bonny also hosts many classes and retreats to continue the shared learning and teaching. Mapleridge Gallery and studio overlooks a coulee where you can see rolling hills for miles.
Artist’s Reception Tuesday, September 10 from 7 - 9 PM
