Saskatchewan
residents are invited to share what they love about our province, with
an opportunity to win some fabulous prizes, through a new online contest
called “I Heart Culture!”
Led
by SaskCulture Inc. (the nonprofit agency that provides support to the
province’s arts and cultural sector through the Saskatchewan Lotteries
Trust Fund for Sport, Culture & Recreation), the I Heart Culture
contest invites people to submit photos, videos, poems, stories, or
even recipes, that reflect what they love most about our province –the
places we love, people, food, landscapes and skylines, poetry and
storytelling, films, music, art, dance, crafts – or whatever they
believe is important to them. As James Ingold, Chair of SaskCulture’s
Board of Directors stated, “These are the things that make our culture
unique. They are what make Saskatchewan a special place to live or
visit.”
Entries submitted will qualify for a draw to be held during Culture Days 2013. The prize packages are being called the Ultimate Saskatchewan Cultural Experience,
and include tickets to major festivals, concert venues, galleries and
museums for 2014. By sharing what you love about Saskatchewan’s
culture, you could win tickets to the 2014 Craven Country Jamboree
(including campsite!), the Regina Folk Festival, the Summer Solstice Festival d'été in Gravelbourg or
the Long Day’s Night Music Festival in Swift Current (among many
others)! Also part of the prize packages are bus passes courtesy of
STC The Bus Company. Contest winners can enjoy the comfort and safety
of travelling with STC to festivals or events located around the
province.
SaskEnergy is another significant corporate partner in this campaign, and is inserting information about the I Heart Culture
contest in their July energy bill mail-out as well as promoting the
link to the contest site on the SaskEnergy web site. They will also
have their SaskEnergy tent set up during Culture Days, a national
initiative that is coordinated in Saskatchewan by SaskCulture. Leslie
Gosselin, Manager of Community Services for SaskEnergy, says “SaskEnergy
is proud to be able to contribute to the conversation about how
important culture is, in every community in our province.”
The
annual Culture Days event takes place in more than 850 Canadian cities
and towns during the last weekend of September, generating an
extraordinary amount of enthusiasm in the process. This year’s Culture Days weekend will take place on September 27, 28 and 29, 2013.
Once again, the event will feature free, hands-on, interactive
activities that invite the public to participate “behind the scenes”—
and to discover the world of artists, creators, historians, architects,
curators, and designers at work in their community. In Saskatchewan,
over 240 events took place in 54 communities in 2012. To learn more,

The I Heart Culture
contest was established as a means to generate interest and excitement
about Saskatchewan’s rich cultural fabric in advance of September’s
Culture Days activities. The contest was specifically designed as a
social media campaign to capture a more youthful demographic in the
conversation about the importance of our culture, our heritage, and what
our province has to offer. Entries can be submitted by simply posting a
photograph or video on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, using the
hashtag #iheartculture.
Visit www.iheartculture.ca for more details about the contest and the great prizes and experiences offered.
