Friends of the Performing Arts (FOPA) will soon begin preparations for Mardi Gras 2014 (February 15 at Stockade Convention Centre). This will mark the 17th year of what has become the roots of community-focused musical support. Mardi Gras 2013 boasted 15 bands, buskers, and dance performance groups, performing in front of a very festive and enthusiastic sold out crowd. Mardi Gras 2013 raised a record $23,000. In fact, since 2008 the Friends of the Performing Arts have raised $70,000. 100% of the proceeds is donated to local music, band and drama programs, music and dance festivals, and various scholarships.
FOPA is now seeking more members. If you are interested in organizing, volunteering, or coordinating in any capacity, we would love to hear from you. We will hold a brief meeting on Monday October 7th at 7pm at the Second Cup. Discussion will include honorariums for coordinators and volunteer assignments. Please contact Cindy Gratton (FOPA president) if you plan on attending, or if you are interested in helping but cannot attend the meeting.
