There will an artist Face-Off on January 14, 2014, at the Opening Reception of Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada, at the Alberta Building, Lloydminster Exhibition Grounds, starting at 7:00 pm.
Cake and coffee. Student Art Awards, Lloydminster Hockey HistoryWalk, Interactive Hockey Skills Challenges, Hockey Hall of Fame Exhibits.
The Face-Off will feature 7 local artist: RaeLynn Lake (potter), Dawn Lawrence Floen (jeweler), Michelle Lake (acrylic artist), Graham Flatt (watercolourist), Brandi Hofer (mixed media artist), students Argel Alcobilla (Lloydminster Comprehensive High School), and Allyx Nakonechny (Holy Rosary High School). Each artist will have one hour to create a unique piece of art that will be auction off that evening.

Workshops
Pottery classes with local potters Eleanor Shaw & Christiane Dumas will take place at Lloydminster Cultural & Science Centre (former Barr Colony Heritage Cultural Centre) on January 7, 14, 21, 28, February 4, 11, 25 (Tuesdays) from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Participants will have the opportunity to explore both hand building and wheel pottery. No experience necessary. All tools and one bag of clay provided with registration fee. Additional clay can be purchased. The cost to register in the pottery classes is $225 + tax.
“Mixed Media Acrylic Painting” sessions will take place at Lloydminster Cultural & Science Centre on January 11 and 18 (Saturdays) from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Join Saskatchewan artist Jinny Nieviadomy as she takes you through the steps to create a multi-media diptych masterpiece. The cost to register in this 2-session workshop on mixed media acrylic painting is $90.00 + tax.
A workshop on “Encaustic Beeswax Painting” will take place at Lloydminster Cultural & Science Centre on January 23 (Thursday) from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm. Encaustic painting is the art form of using heated beeswax, tinted with colour pigments, to create a one of a kind piece of art. Join local fine artist Brandi Hofer as she teaches you the techniques of encaustic painting, including a multimedia component. All materials supplied. No experience necessary. The cost to register in this workshop on encaustic beeswax painting is $65.00 + tax.

Dimensions is the Saskatchewan Craft Council’s touring, juried, exhibition of Fine Craft. It is a dynamic, colourful exhibition of 35 Fine Craft works in a wide variety of media. 2013 celebrates the 30th Dimensions exhibition organized by the Saskatchewan Craft Council.
The exhibition was selected by Michael Hosaluk, Saidye Bronfoman Award winning wood worker, designer, and educator from Saskatoon. Michael has had much previous experience with Dimensions as a participating artist, awards winner, and juror. The out-of-province juror was Susan Rankin, a glass artist from Apsley, Ontario. Susan grew up in Saskatchewan and maintains family and artistic ties in the province. Her work is exhibited internationally and nationally.
122 new and experienced craftspeople submitted up to two handcrafted items each, for consideration. Dimensions features 35 works by 33 exceptionally talented Saskatchewan craftspeople – the best in Saskatchewan Fine Craft.
