Artist Face-Off - Jan 14

There will an artist Face-Off on January 14, 2014, at the Opening Reception of Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada, at the Alberta Building, Lloydminster Exhibition Grounds, starting at 7:00 pm. Seven local artists, including two student artists from Lloydminster, will be creating a unique art piece within one hour. The art piece will be reflective of the theme hockey/community/winter. This is an opportunity for our community to see different methods of art creation and bid (silent auction) and support local artists. This event has free admission and will run from 7:00 – 9:00 pm.

The artists include: student artist Allyx Nakonechny (Holy Rosary), student artist Argel Alcobilla (LCHS), Dawn Lawrence Floen (jewelry), RaeLynn Lake (potter), Brandi Hofer (mixed media fine artist), Graham Flatt (watercolorist), and Michelle Lake (acrylic artist).

There will also be a presentation of School Art Awards to one student from each of the 16 schools within Lloydminster, marking their engagement, participation and art achievement for Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada Lloydminster.

The Huron Carole is a national tour spanning 4 weeks and 18 shows from Newfoundland to Vancouver Island. Funds raised benefit local food banks. The concert, which is filled with Christmas music and stories embracing messages of peace, optimism and harmony, will inspire action to eliminate hunger. Scheduled artists include founder Tom Jackson, One More Girl, Beverley Mahood, Shannon Gaye and George Canyon.

Here Comes Santa Claus Day - December 7

 
8am -11am – Free Pancake Breakfast at the Lloydminster Legion with Pancakes, Sausage, Juice and Coffee. Sponsored by Sobey’s Ready to Serve,The Lloydminster Kinsmen, The Lloydminster Chamber of Commerce and Streetscapes.

8am - 5pm – Midwest Furniture Colouring Fun. Pick up a picture of Santa Claus to colorfully and drop it off at Midwest Furniture for a chance to win aPS4!!,the first 50 kids will get a FREE Leisure Centre pass from the City of Lloydminster.

10am – The Lloydminster Library invites all children to take part in a fun day of Christmas Crafts. Decorate all sorts of ornaments for your Christmas tree.

11am – 2pm - Santa Arrives at the Atrium Centre in his sleigh led by a team of horses and the Lloydminster Cutter Rally. Santa will be bringing treats for all good little girls and boys’ courtesy of Sandpiper Truck Services. The first 150 children to visit with Santa will also get a free movie pass from Crude Master Transport.

12 - 3pm - Get your picture taken with the Grinch! The first 200 kids to visit with the Grinch at the
St. John’s Anglican Church will get a FREE Happy Meal courtesy of McDonalds Lloydminster and McElhanney Land Surveys.

12 - 3pm - Bouncy Houses and carnival games at St. John’s Anglican Church. Brought to you by
ATB Financial, Dabane Trucking, Hall Revering Law Office and the Tent Guys.

11am - 2pm - Free Wiener Roast at Synergy Credit Union. Let the Lloydminster Fire Department serve you a great hot dog or grab a stick and roast your own.

11am AND 2pm - Take in a FREE Matinee at May Cinema 6! “See How the Grinch Stole Christmas”. Brought to you by Cliff Rose for Clothes.

12 pm - Build a Gingerbread House. Join Habitat for Humanity at the Royal Bank and build a great gingerbread house. 1 house per family and children must be accompanied by parents. 100 houses available sponsored by RBC Royal Bank Lloydminster Branch and Sobey’s Ready to Serve

1 – 4pm - Carols and Cards Visit the Root in Downtown Lloydminster for some great entertainment and help your kids make a great Christmas Card with crafts supplied by Kindrachuk Dobson Lawyers & Mediators.

2 - 4pm – Cookie Decorating. Join The Lloydminster Co-op and Big Brothers Big Sisters at Ernies Coffee House and decorate Christmas cookies. Sponsored by Atco Electric.

4pm - Join the Mayor at St. John’s Anglican Church, as he reads “Frosty the Snowman”.

5pm – Fireworks!! Lloydminster will light up as the fireworks are launched over Downtown Lloydminster. Sponsored by Platinum Energy Services and Servus Credit Union.

7:30pm – Teddy Bear Toss! Lloydminster Bobcats vs Drayton Valley Thunder at the Civic Centre. FREE ADMISSION with a teddy bear donation to the Gift of Christmas.
